(Northern Railroad) Northern R.R., July 23, well-struck route agent's double-circle datestamp with day in manuscript and two strikes of matching "PAID" in rectangle handstamps cancel 3¢ dull red (11A), large margins to clear at right with brilliant color, on circa 1852 folded cover to Concord N.H., Very Fine, a rare route agent marking, Rarity VIII; with 2011 P.F. certificate. Envelope put onto Route 1252 on July 23rd circa 1852. Probably carried east to Rouses Point for transfer onto Route 301 on the Vermont Central Railroad and east to Concord.
Simpson-Alexander list this as Rarity 10 (unique), however we note two other examples, one offered in the prior lot (lot 4340) and one other in the Wyer collection.
