(Calaveras) Double Springs, Cala., Dec 18th, manuscript postmark (CAL-850) with postmaster free frank on 1855 folded letter to Maine, with letter datelined from the Spring Valley Hotel; central file fold, Very Fine, this being the finer of two known examples of the Double Springs postmark and the only known postmarks from this town. Estimate $400 - 600.
The other example sold in our 2011 Western Postal History Sale which realized $1,600 hammer.
