Wells, Fargo & Co., Howlands Flat, Dec 9, blue oval datestamp (Leutzinger type 11-9) on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, black company printed frank in unusual diagonal alignment, 1867 docketing on reverse, Very Fine and choice, one of the finest strikes of this scarce date stamp.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Howland's Flat was 12 miles northeast of La Porte and was the principal town in the Poker Flat gold mining district. It is now a ghost town.
