(Town & County) Port Tiburon, Marin Co. Cal., Jul 22, 1887 (Marin), intensely bold cds and target duplex (MRN-3160, R5) on 1885, 2¢ Grant letter sheet to San Francisco; some light staining, a Superb strike, the only recorded example of the "Point Tiburon" postmark, ex-Polland. Estimate $250 - 350.
This was Tiburon's first handstamp postmark and the only one with the "Point" designation. It was an unofficial locative name used by the postmaster. No doubt the Post Office Department advised him that this was not allowed and by 1890, the device was still in use with "Point" removed.
