(Yuba) Owsley's Bar, Cal., Aug 8th, 1864, manuscript postmark (YUB-1230, R5) on cover to Cartesburg, N.H., franked with manuscript canceled 1861, 3¢ rose; minor cover edge wear, Very Fine, the earliest of two known postmarks from Owsley's Bar and the only posted prior to the official opening of the post office in December of 1855.

Owsley's Bar was named after Dr. Owsley who, combining prospecting with his medical practice, discovered gold there in 1849. Was located on the Yuba river miles east of Marysville.
