Bermuda, 1873, Queen Victoria, 6d dull mauve, perf 14, tied by "Hamilton, Bermuda, Oc 9, 84" cds and barred "1" duplex on cover to Halifax, Nova Scotia paying the late fee of double the 3d rate; minor cover opening tears at top, Very Fine. Scott No. 5. SG No. 7 Estimate $500 - 750.
The rate to Canada was 3d per ½ oz., but this letter was posted after normal closing time for the mail by S.S. "Orinoco" leaving that afternoon. However by paying the late fee of double postage it caught the ship. The collection letter "B" in the date half of the Hamilton duplex provides confirmation.
