1898, Trans-Miss., 2¢ copper red, tied by light strike of "UNMAILABLE" straightline cancel on 1898 postcard originating in Switzerland prepaid by Switzerland 2fr and 3fr stamps tied by "Kriens I.IX 98" cds to New York, upon arrival forwarded to San Francisco with U.S. 2¢ carmine (279B) tied by "New York N.Y., Sep 12, 1898" machine cancel, "San Francisco Cal., Sep 17 '98" machine cancel, Dead Letter Office (9.23) triangular backstamp, forwarded again to Yokohama, Japan, returned to Switzerland with Japan 4s olive bister (77) tied by "Yokohama, Japan, 23 Nov" cds, endorsed "Via India" and "Via Suez", reverse of card reads (in three languages) "Please address this card so as to make the circuit of the work and back"; some edge and stamp flaws, still a Very Fine around-the-world post card use that almost ended in the United States.Scott No. 286 Estimate $500 - 750.
