Australian States: New South Wales, 1858 (Jul. 10) Sydney, New South Wales to New York N.Y. via Panama, mourning cover bearing New South Wales, 2d blue and 1s rose vermilion (31), each canceled by "N.S.W." oval duplexed with "Sydney, 58 JY 10" cds, manuscript "Exceeds ½ oz." at right, carried by private ship via Panama, railroad across Isthmus, then steamship to New York where "Steamship 20" circular handstamp struck for double the 10¢ steamship rate, docketed "Recd Oct. 30. 1858" on reverse; some edge wear, Very Fine and attractive mourning cover use.Estimate $500 - 750.
