False Signed by Four of the Company's Officers, one page, 8.25" x 10.5", on Head Quarters, 5th Company, Battalion Washington Artillery letterhead, datelined "Camp Farewell near Cuba Station, Ala, May 6, 1865", C. N. False enlisted on May 26, 1861 in New Orleans as an Artificer and mustered into the 5th Company of the Washington Artillery. The document certifies that he was transferred from the Orleans Guard Battery to the 5th Washington Artillery and was present at engagements including Buzzard Roost, Resaca, Dallas, Pine Mountain, Kennesaw Ridge, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Dalton, Overhall Creek, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Spanish Fork and Perryville. The document is signed by his Washington Artillery officers including Captain C. H. Slocomb, commander of the battery, 1st Lieutenant W. C. D. Vaught, 1st Lieutenant A. J.
