(Campaign - 1856) John Fremont, portrait design in oval on yellow cover bearing 3¢ dull red (11A), three margins, rich color, tiny corner crease, tied by "Springfield Ms., Nov 10" cds to Old Saybrook Conn., matching illustrated enclosure datelined "Springfield Nov. 9th 1856"; filing holes and reduced slightly at left, Very Fine and lovely Fremont campaign cover. Fremont was a founding member of the Republican Party and in 1856 was chosen as its first presidential candidate, although the Democratic Party candidate, James Buchanan, won. This design differs slightly from the Milgram JF-6 design illustrated in the Milgram book.
