Ecuador, 1866, 4r red, horizontal pair, second printing, in combination with 1865, 1r yellow ochre, horizontal pair (3rd printing) on Judicial front to Guaranda paying the 20 oz. parcel rate, with 4r stamps canceled by blue "3154 lozenge" and 1r stamps canceled by red "3154" lozenge handstamps, red "Quito, Franca, 7 Jun, 71" origin cds's, Very Fine, ex-Longhi; with 2009 Moorhouse certificate.

A VERY RARE USAGE OF THE SAME CANCEL APPLIED IN DIFFERENT COLORS TO PREVENT FRAUDULENT REUSE OF STAMPS.

Due to primary red Quito cancelling ink and the 4r stamp being in the same color, effort was made here on the part of the postmaster to used a contrasting blue ink on the 4r issue in order to properly deface the issue.
