"Hibernia" Maiden Return Voyage, 1843 (Apr. 8) Vera Cruz, Mexico to London, England via Boston, datelined folded letter with red "BOSTON" straightline handstamp and manuscript "1/-" shilling transatlantic packet rating, carried on Cunard Line Hibernia from Boston May 16th to Liverpool arriving May 28th, docketed as received May 29th, Very Fine; with 1970 Robson Lowe authenticity letter.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

This "Boston" straightline was given by the G.P.O. London to their representative in Boston (who may have been the British Consul) for use on letters handled by the British packets operating between Boston and Liverpool.
