This card was addressed by an employee of the Maine factory to Major Reeve with scribbling on the front and with the factory town name on the back is assumed to be a test of ink porosity to verify that the paper sizing was sufficient to keep the ink from spreading. Supposedly all "unissued" sample McKinley full face cards at Washington were defaced by pen, handstamp or printing.
