Confederacy, 1863, 20¢ green, deep color, small stain, tied by "Richmond, Va., May 17" cds on folded letter to Virginia, soldier's endorsement at top from "Thos Phaup, Co. G., 1st Vol. Cavalry" (part of the Amelia Dragoons), enclosure datelined "Camp 1st Va. Cavalry near Richmond, May 15" and names a number of killed soldiers in his company, F.-V.F. Scott No. 13 $1,250.
A day before General Lee's surrender, Private Phaup was wounded on April 8th, 1865 at Appomattox Court House, Va. and paroled April 15th, 1865 at Burkeville Junction, Va.
