(Forts) (Fort Buchanan, Arizona) 1860 (c., Mar. 15) New York N.Y. to Fort Buchanan, Arizona, New Mexico Territory, light buff cover endorsed "Over Land Mail Via St. Louis" bearing 3¢ dull red (26) tied by "New-York Mar 15" cds; small top edge mend and partial flap, Very Fine and attractive use.

Fort Buchanan existed for only five years 1856 to 1861 and was part of New Mexico Territory as Arizona was not a separate territory until February 24, 1863. It was under constant threat from Apaches. This cover was carried along the Butterfield Overland Mail route from St. Louis to Arizona.
