(Express Mail) 1845 (Feb. 26) New Haven Ct. to Mobile Ala., gray folded letter with red "New Haven Ct Feb 26" cds and matching "Paid" scroll fancy handstamp with magenta "50" rating, blue manuscript "Express" endorsement at top left and red crayon; light central fold toning, F.-V.F. Estimate $400 - 600.
This is a very rare example of the revival of express service from 1836-1839 that last only three months. Announced January 29th 1845 in New York and discontinued March 10th 1845. This was only along some of the original route.
