Worldwide, Olympic Grunewald Stadium, 1913, privately order 5pf postal card showing the Grunewald Stadium in Berlin with unused Inaugural label affixed, card with small corner clipped, otherwise Very Fine. Estimate $200 - 300.
The I.O.C. at the 1912 Stockholm games awarded Berlin the site of the 6th Olympiad. Work on the stadium, the Deutsches Stadion ("German Stadium"), began in 1912 at what was the Grunewald Race Course. It was planned to seat more than 18,000 spectators. On 8 June 1913, the stadium was dedicated with the release of 10,000 pigeons. 60,000 people were in attendance. The games for the 6th Olympiad were later cancelled due to World War I.
