1846 (Aug. 15) New York N.Y. to Cognac, France, datelined folded letter endorsed "p. Great Western" and with New York pencil "50" rating for double the 25¢ steamship freight money fee, carried by Great Western from New York Aug. 20th to Liverpool arriving Sep. 3rd, red London (9.4) backstamp and matching "Colonies & Art. 13" framed accountancy handstamp, additional "SHIP-LETTER" straightline (Robertson S36) on back, red Boulogne (9.8) entry cds with manuscript "28" decimes as "10" gram letter, but cross out and updated to "43" decimes as "15" gram letter, Very Fine and scarce freight money use to France.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The 43 decimes postage due in France was for 20 decimes due the U.K. and 23 decimes French internal postage for a distance of 570 km from Boulogne to Cognac.
