(Polk) Etna, Ogn., July 8th, manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 1, R 7) with manuscript "3 cts Paid" rate marking all at upper right on stampless cover, Cummins correspondence to Eugene City, hand-drawn Civil War patriotic flag design at left with text written in phonography, accompanied by original 1861 letter also written in phonography, cover slightly reduced at right with repaired corner at lower right and minor corner wear at upper right, Fine and very unusual. Estimate $200 - 300.
