"1854" dockets on the back, Portland, O.T., Sep 11 balloon cds (Whittlesey 3, R A) as transit postmark with Missent straight line handstamp, Very Fine, sent before the Port Orford Post Office was officially established so probably transported by private ship up the coast and then to Portland out of necessity.Estimate $300 - 400.
