1852, 3¢ dull red, type I, unofficial "Chicago" perf 12½, position 29L7, perfs scissors-separated but mostly intact, bright color, tied by clear strike of "Chicago, Ill., Jul. 15, 1856" cds on buff cover to Columbia S.C., cover with sealed tear at top, a Very Fine appearing use; plated by Cellar with pencil notation on reverse.

Wilson Hulme recorded 40 examples of the 3¢ 1851 Issue with Chicago perfs used on cover. The earliest recorded date of use is May 3, 1856.
