This invitation to John Harris Soper (1846-1944) is dated six months prior to his request as Commander-in-chief of military forces of the Provisional Government of Hawaii for Liliuokalani to yield to a superior force. Soper's calming influences prevented a violent and bloody overthrow on January 17, 1893.
