F. Wittrock. Hamoa. Maui, bold purple corner card handstamp on cover bearing 2¢ dull violet, red overprint (57), right selvage, tied by purple "Paia, Maui, Jan 1 1897" (MH 253.02) with inverted year slug, addressed to Hobron Drug Co., Honolulu, reverse with Honolulu Jan. 3, 1897 arrival duplex; two mounting stains on back, otherwise Very Fine. Frederick C. Wittrock was a Tax Assessor and Inspector, and also served later as Postmaster in Hamoa (1898-99). The Paia 27mm double lined circle cds (MH 253.02) is not recorded by Gregory, but this definitely was not a duplex as shown by the position of the strike.
