West Esgr., New Bedford Mass. bearing 3¢ dull red, type I (25) tied by "New-York Aug 13" cds, manuscript "Lahaina Maui, Sandwich Islands" docketing, pencil "1857" year designation; flap and embossing with hinge mending, F.-V.F., ex-Chase, Krug, Advertiser.

This cover was carried by American ship "Aspasia" from Honolulu April 4th to New York arriving August 12th 1857. It entered the mails the following day with a New York August 13th postmark.
