1871 (Aug. 17) to Brausminden, Germany, orange buff cover bearing mixed issue franking of 1861 1¢ blue (63) and 1870 6¢ carmine (148), tied by grids duplexed with indistinct cds, prepaid at the 7¢ 1870 U.S.-North German Union postal convention rate effective July 1st 1870, red "New York Paid All 'Direct' Aug 17" exchange cds, carried by NGL Line Hannover from New York Aug. 17th to Southampton arriving Aug. 29th, red "Bremen, 1 / 9 71, Franco" framed transit, German (9.2) arrival backstamps, Very Fine and scarce mixed issue combination, ex-Ainsworth.
