Transatlantic Mails - 1859 to 1866

1863 (Dec. 20) New York N.Y. to Belfast, Ireland, orange cover bearing three 24¢ lilac (78) singles, each tied by three strikes of NYFM circular geometric cancel, reverse with "Weight less than 1½ oz" notation, black "New-York Am. Pkt. Dec 20" exchange cds and red "Short Paid" framed handstamp with black "84" debit rating handstamp, carried by Inman Line Kangaroo from New York Dec. 20th to Queenstown arriving Jan. 1st, Belfast (1.2.63) backstamp and manuscript "4/-" shilling due rating; cover faults including hole affects right stamp, Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Although the cover was prepaid for three-times the 24¢ treaty rate for under 1½ oz., it was apparently determined over weight and treated totally unpaid with 84¢ debit rating (4x 21¢ rate) and British 4 shilling due rating for four-times the 1s transatlantic packet rate.
