1849 (Feb. 16) Carlisle, England to Oberlin Oh., folded letter with blue green "Carlisle, FE 16 1849" double-arc datestamp and red manuscript "Paid 1/-" rating, Liverpool (2.17) backstamps, carried by Cunard Line America from Liverpool Feb. 24th to Boston arriving Mar. 8th, red "Boston Ms. 'Ship; Mar 10" rimless cds with matching "Paid" and large "24" cent, additional red ms. "5", some edge wear, F.-V.F., A scarce use on the first transatlantic voyage under the new U.S.-G.B. treaty.
