AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND EARLY USE FROM NUSHAGAK, ALASKA.

The postmarks reading "U.S. Post Office, Alaska" were carried to Alaska by Post Office Department Inspectors instructed to open new post offices to serve the needs of new arrivals during the gold rush of 1898. They were used at various towns with additional manuscript or handstamps to indicate the town origin.
