1870 (Feb. 8) Trinidad to Philadelphia, Pa., datelined blue folded letter carried by private ship to St. Thomas, red "Lamp & Co., St. Thomas W.I." forwarder's oval at lower left and strike on reverse, carried by USBMSC North America departing Feb. 14th to New York arriving Aug. 21st, entered mails with 10¢ yellow (116) tied by "N.York Steamship Feb 21" cds; "Philadelphia Received Feb 21 12 AM" backstamp and offset on face, F.-V.F., a scarce use from Trinidad via St. Thomas forwarder.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

From about 1863, the Post Office in St. Thomas stocked and sold U.S. 10¢ stamps (and probably 2¢ values) to prepay U.S. steamship postage. The local 3¢ DWI postage was paid in cash.
