In February 1860 Russell, Majors and Waddell (of Pony Express fame) took over the failing Jones & Russell's Express and founded the Central Overland & Pikes Peak Express Co. with the eastern terminal moved to Saint Joseph, Mo. During the Fall of 1859, Waddell, along with partners William H. Russell and Alexander Majors began construction of the Pony Express route from St. Joseph, Missouri to San Francisco Cal. along the central route.
