Confederacy, "By Flag of Truce, Via Charleston S.C., manuscript endorsement at top left of 1864 yellow cover to Browers Mills N.C., pencil "Ex H" examiner's marking at left, bearing 10¢ blue (11), large margins, corner crease upper right, tied by "Charleston S.C. Oct 30" cds, Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Initially this letter would have been in an outer envelope with a U.S. stamp, but it would have been discard before being passed to Confederate authorities near Charleston. The "Ex H" was likely annotated at Port Royal, as it is also recorded on Prisoner of War mail from there.
