North Eastern R.R. 12 Dec, fine strike of cds ties 3¢ dull red (11A), four margins, on cover to Charleston S.C., original letter datelined "Chelsea 10 Dcr 1858", Very Fine, Rarity X, ex-Wyer.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS NORTH EASTERN RAILROAD AGENT CDS.

The North Eastern Railroad was chartered December 16th 1851 and constructed largely through the efforts of the City of Charleston. It was completed to Florence S.C. in November 1856, and route agent service commenced in 1858. After the Civil War, different postmarks were used. This letter was addressed to Branchville, where the line divided into two segments to Hamburg and Columbia.
