(Naval) U.S.S. Texas Naval Correspondence, 1917-19, of 33 covers mostly from Percy Clark aboard the U.S.S. Texas during WWI to his mother and father; each with original enclosure detailing his experience during and shortly after WWI, with interesting content including first letter…The Pres. declared war at 1:00 o'clock Thursday. They have seized the German boats in the harbors and I heard they sank one ship, many of the covers prior to going to Europe are patriotic covers and showing the domestic rate change from 2¢ to the 3¢ war rate, other covers including YMCA, covers during tour in Europe with censor date stamp, mentions the activities of pressing back the Germans during the war, post war correspondence (many from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba) with mention of the first aeroplane flying from a American battleship and the successful attempt by Navy Curtiss NC flying boat NC-4 to become the first airplane to cross the Atlantic; cover condition a bit mixed, F.-V.F. overall.
