Pacific Express Co., Auburn, Sep 2, oval date stamp (PAC-102) on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Nevada City, with Horse & Rider Illustrated Blue Frank at top left (PAC-005); small tear at top center not affecting handstamp or frank, Very Fine, a very rare blue frank usage, with only two known examples of this Auburn handstamp. Estimate $750 - 1,000.
A number of expresses has blue colored franks that saw limited usage. Their function is still not fully understood by students.
