A route was first contracted with the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Rail Road as Route 1359 in February 1860 $3,128 a year for six trips a week. The route from Cayuga to Ithaca was by steamboat with a transfer to rail cars for Oswego. In 1865, the contract was renewed as Route 1387 with twelve trips a week at $975 a week.
