Favor's Express, Boston, 10 Court Sq., red company circular cachet on flap of folded letter datelined "St. John 12th May 1852" and endorsed within "Admiral", addressed to New York N.Y., entered mails with "Boston '5cts' 14 May" cds for the 5¢ rate and matching "Steam" straightline handstamp adjacent, Very Fine.Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
Hiram Favor of Eastport Me. was appointed a letter carrier for the mails between Boston and St. John with stops at Portland and Eastport. Favor ran the service between 1849 and 1859 using the steamship "Admiral" throughout. Only when on its annual dry docking were other vessels used.
