River Mail, Jan 14" cds (Towle O-6-a) ties 3¢ dull red (11) on orange buff cover to Newton Centre Mass. carried on Route 2576 to Wheeling where transferred for east coast; second with blue "Wheeling & Park. River Mail Feb 26" cds (Towle O-6-b) on circa 1856 buff cover to Philadelphia Pa. carried on Route 5088 to Wheeling for B&O rail to Philadelphia, top edge flaw, F.-V.F. and scarce exhibit pair.Towle No. O-6-a, O-6-b Estimate $300 - 400.
In July 1851, Route 2576 was contracted to John McLure, John Reed and James Roberts at $2,500 per year for three trips a week. Route 5088 was contracted to John H. Booth at $3,200 year in August 1855.
