Ship Island, Miss. Apr 14, two line postmark with manuscript date on 1862 cover to Philadelphia, Pa., franked with manuscript canceled 1861, 3¢ rose and "Due 3" below, Very Fine, an lovely usage from this Union occupation post office. Estimate $150 - 200.
Ship Island was occupied by Federal troops in December 1861 and was used as a staging area for troops in the attack of New Orleans which took place in April 1862.
