1866 (Jan. 25) Shanghai, China To Trempealeau County, Wisconsin Via Hong Kong, blue cover with Shanghae (1.25) and Hong Kong (1.29) backstamps,bearing Hong Kong 2¢, 4¢ (3), 8¢ and 24¢ franking tied by "B62" cancels, red crayon "1" and "1/9½" ratings, red London Paid (3.22) transit cds with matching "21/Cents" credit rating, carried by Allan Line Damascus from Liverpool Mar. 22nd to Portland Me. arriving Apr. 4th, closed bag to Chicago with red "Chicago Am. Pkt. 'Paid' Apr 6" exchange cds; small stamp faults and part of flap missing; accompanied by second 1865 (Oct. 25) large part of cover from same correspondence bearing Hong Kong 8¢, 12¢ and 24¢ franking, Fine, a stunning four color franking, The 46¢ rate (45¢ plus 1¢ local) was established Nov. 2nd 1863 (Webb, p. 231).
