Dearborn" on cover with part top and right side flaps only, endorsed "Dept of State" addressed to The Collector of Customs at Alexandria Va., "Washington City Aug 12" cds and matching "Free" rating handstamp; part cover has been archivally silked, F.-V.F., ex-Richard Graham Collection. Henry Dearborn was apparently acting as Secretary of State for Monroe and free franked this official Department of State business letter to the customs office.
