Confederacy, 1861, 10¢ Blue, huge margins except just clear at bottom, tied by "Mobile Ala Oct 11" cds on circa 1862 homemade brown cover addressed to Lauderdale Depot Miss., original letter to sender's wife accompanies with great content: "I am sorry I did not return from the Depot on ascertaining the condition of things in a military point of view - Three trains of empty cars pass up just about the time we left - In the course of the day dince two three more passed up - The object of this dispatch of so much transportation, is to remove our military stores - wounded soldiers etc. etc. to a lower point on the R Road and to afford any other needed assistance to our defeated army … Many parent here whose sons were in companies known to have been almost annihilated are still in a state of fearful anxiety as to the fate of their sons…One regiment was sent up the road last evening - another goes today, and as many as can be spared from this point will be sent. The dread seems to be, that the enemy may reach Columbus where we have important stores and machine shops…" This was written after the fall of Corinth, Very Fine. Scott No. 2 Estimate $300 - 400.
