Lot 2256

Confederacy, (Knoxville, Tenn.) 1864 Court Document Regarding C. W. Charlton, Csa Postmaster At Knoxville, Charlton's name appears on the scarce provisional stamp, he was appointed May 3, 1859 and replaced by James C. Luttrell on July 20, 1861, the letter reads in part "the question arose as to the liability of C.W. Charlton to conscription when the said Charlton, who was personally present, handed to affiant to read, what he said was his commission as Post Master of the City of Knoxville, Tennessee…stating the same was a good and sufficient exemption of the said Charlton from military service"; two small fold splits, otherwise Very Fine, a wonderful opportunity for the provisional collector to acquire an interesting document directly concerning this important postmaster.
Estimate    $100 - 150.
