Confederacy, Columbia, S.C., 1861, 5¢ Blue, Seal on Back, clear strike of provisional oval on back, matching "Paid" and "5" rating handstamps (Dietz type IE) on front, entered mails with manuscript "Monticello S.C., August 27, 1861" postmark to Mrs. James C. Furman at Greenville S.C.; minor edge restoration, clean and Very Fine appearing.
Scott No. 18XU4a    $1,250.

The Monticello S.C. post office improperly accepted this entire as fully prepaid.
