Hale & Co., 1844 (6¢) Red on Bluish, margins at left and bottom, clear at top and just touched at right, intense color, manuscript "AB" (Amos Bates, Hale's agent) control mark, cancelled by manuscript "X", clear strike of red "Forwarded by Hale & Co., from New Bedford" oval handstamp and matching "Paid"on Dec. 18th 1844 folded letter to Springfield Mass., stamp tied by "Hale & Co., Boston" oval handstamp with additional strike at center; top corner slightly affected from edge placement, vertical file fold does not appear to affect stamp, Very Fine.
