City Despatch Post, 1847-50, 2¢ Black on Grayish, position 30, large margins all around, tied by "City Despatch Post P.O., Aug 26, O'Clock" cds with second strike at left on 1848 folded letter addressed to Chelsea, Mass., matching straight line "Paid" handstamp, with blue manuscript through handstamp applied by the New York Post Office and red "New - York, 5cts, Aug 27" integral rate cds alongside, letter with interesting content regarding traveling from Massachusetts to New York by railroad and steamer, Extremely Fine, one, if not the only known example of this issue on a cover traveling outside of New York City, illustrated in E. Perry 100 Years Ago (page 52), ex Mason, Duckworth, Boker and Kapiloff; with 2011 P.F. certificate.
