Exposition & Fair Covers - 1901 Pan-Am Exposition (Cancellations)

Lot 1249

1901 Pan-American Exposition, "Pan-Am. Sta., Buffalo, N.Y., Sep 24 1901" (Bomar B01-02B), rubber duplex with bars ties 1901, Pan-American 1¢ single and 2¢ vertical pair on official souvenir mailing card addressed to Spring Lake, N.J.; some edge wear, F.-V.F. and scarce, Bomar $250.
Scott No. 294, 295 pair    Estimate $200 - 300.

Sometime on or after 8 June 1901, someone (probably an employee of the expo postal station) cleaned the canceling device with a solvent which warped the rubber, causing deformation in the dial circle. The 7 killer bars are still visible. This example is an anomaly, as the latest recorded use of the deformed postmark with bars (B01-02B) is July 18th.

Realized: $180
