(Temperance) The Maine Liquor Law, illustrated design showing Liberty holding Flag with slogans above and below address panel, on cover to Roxbury, Mass., franked with clear to large margin 1851, 3¢ dull red tied by rimless "Lowell, Mass., Jul 15" cds, Very Fine and choice, a lovely example of this scarce temperance design, ex Haas.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

This design was created in New England by an unknown publisher. Known examples were used from early to the middle 1850's. The Maine Law prohibited the manufacture and sale of liquor within the state was passed in 1851.
