Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ Greenish Blue, four large even margins, tied by indistinct blue Charlottesville Va. 1864 cds on wonderful turned cover addressed to John C. Rutherford, Member from Goodland, House of Delegates, Richmond Va. and with docketing indicating it was from Dr. James Laurence Cabell; inside use is imprinted semi-official use from Medical Director's Office at Richmond Va., inside postmarked Richmond but without stamp and addressed to the Surgeon in Charge, General Hospital, Charlottesville Va.; imprint neatly displayed, Very Fine and choice turned use, ex-Hambrecht.
Scott No. 12c    Estimate $500 - 750.

Cabell was the Surgeon in Charge at Charlottesville and the original use would have been from Surgeon William Allen Carrington, Medical Director at the Department of Virginia, Richmond.
