Union Sympathizer Letter from Kentucky, datelined Louisville, September 24th, 1861, written as he flees his home to avoid being caught between the withdrawing Confederate troops and the Union troops swooping through Kentucky shortly after the start the war; with Confederate sympathies in the rural and southern parts of Kentucky, the Kentucky government passed an act of secession for those areas only, causing considerable disruption to the citizens and ill will within the state, which this letter expresses; transcription accompanies, with patriotic cover picturing Southern gentleman under palmetto tree and verses such as "Oh! for a nigger, and oh! for a whip", F.-V.F.Estimate $150 - 200.
