1840-C $5 Liberty. PCGS graded EF-45. From a mintage of 18,992 pieces, the 1840-C five dollar gold piece is one of the scarcest C-mint half eagles. An estimated 125-150 examples are extant in all grades. (PCGS Pop. 19 in EF-45, only 36 graded higher. Total of 106 in all grades, 9/24/11).Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
